Geriatric Care ProjectFeb 07, 2012 The was a project several of my classmates and I did about 3/4 of the way through our chiropractic program. We were discussing the topic of geriatric care and the prevention of chronic disease. The information is not meant to be a cure or treatment for disease, but rather an informative segment, which explored various presentation capabilites in the classroom and allowed me to expand my portfolio. As always, consult with your physician prior to engaging in any exercise regiment. Since having graduated and currently practicing as licensed chiropractic physician in the State of Florida, I now have an opportunity to educate and treat patients throughout the week. Similar programs are currently in development and are scheduled to be released in winter of 2009. The most common diseases, conditions and surgical recoveries that OTRs and COTAs are involved in for the elderly include: arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke, broken shoulder, wrist, hip and knee replacement as well as repair or replacement of these body parts, depression, diabetes, sensory impairments and dementia. The key in geriatric care is to avoid these injuries and illnesses to begin with. To do this, OTRs and COTAs focus on adapting and modifying the performance of activities of daily living that have become difficult or impossible to do because of age-related changes, disorders or disabilities. Occupational therapy provides help with other activities that relate to geriatric clients that still work. They also find ways for elderly patients to be involved in leisure and social activities that are dependent upon the patient's capabilities and interests. Settings 4. It is the aim of occupational therapy to improve the ability of elderly people so they can stay in their home. NAPGCM VideoApr 06, 2012 A video about NAPGCM produced by our Public Relations and Marketing Committee that is airing on PBS stations nationwide. This two and- a-half-minute spot, featured on the "Spotlight On" educational series, does a fantastic job of illustrating the value that a professional geriatric care manager can bring to a family caring for an older loved one. This project comes out of the NAPGCM Strategic Plan goal to "become the 'Seal of Approval' for care management."
